Coast Guard Deployed As Car Enters Cork’s River Lee

Emergency Services in Cork Called Out After a Car Entered The River Lee in Cork

Coast Guards where called out for assistance at 6am today after a member of the public raised the alarm. Valentia Coast Guard, a rescue helicopter, a team of naval divers, Gardaí and the local fire brigade where all at the scene at the Lee Rowing Club in Cork City.

The car was located in the river shortly after 8am by the underwater dive team, and the news is that no one was found in the car but it’s also believed that a second vehicle may be in the river.

Mallow search and rescue where at the scene along with other naval divers canvassing the area.

There are no barriers to prevent cars from going into the deep waters which creates the risk for these types of road accidents. It is also quite a busy shipping channel.

UPDATE –  Sadly a body has been recovered close from where the two cars were found.
