We are Proud to say that we have claimed First Place in the MIA 2016 Awards.
After a night of Q&A’s and impressive pitches at the Crowne Plaza in Liverpool, Reach and Rescue have won the First Place Prize for our Innovative Rescue Product.
Our presentation highlighted how our product reduces the risk for the emergency services and rescuers by allowing the life saver to remain out of the hazardous zone to safely retrieve the casualty with the assist of a variety of different attachments.
Before the innovative idea, Emergency services had to rely on techniques such as the throw line method which has various inconsistencies, and also risking sending other individual into the hazardous environments.
Our Director Sean Burke said that the unique design features of the pole were transforming search and rescue efforts.
"Rescue and emergency services don’t take chances, so when 70% of UK fire authorities are using this product as a part of their toolkit you know you have done something worthwhile."
We only had 10 minutes to pitch our innovation to the MIA judges – BBC political editor Arif Ansari, director of product development at Supercar manufacturer BAC Neill Briggs and a former MIA winner Howard Rose.
“We are so delighted to win,” said Global Sales Director Jo Taylor. “We really believe in our product and so far we have grown organically. But this prize will help us move towards SOLAS (Safety Of Lives At Sea) accreditation.
“What keeps us going is knowing our products are saving lives. We received a testimonial this week from a water safety team, WUKSART, who had used our pole to rescue a runner in a Total Warrior Race in Leeds who slipped down an embankment and got into difficulty in a river. This is what motivates us.”
Brian McCann who founded the Merseyside Innovation Awards said,
“Congratulations to Reach and Rescue. They have a great plan for their prize but more importantly, they have a great product which I think the judging panel felt deserved to be recognised for its impact on lives, not just economically on Merseyside but in real life-or-death emergencies.”
The team at Reach and Rescue are extremely proud to be winners of this award and will continue to put our efforts into new innovations to assist life savers around the world.
