Nine People Rescued From Struggling Hot Air Balloon in Australia

How Nine People Escaped Death in a Dramatic Water Rescue

A family dramatically carried out a heroic rescue saving nine people on the Australian coast last Sunday. The Hot Air balloon was struggling heading into to the water at a dangerously low height when the family quickly reacted and intercepted the balloon by boat.

The balloon passengers clambered out the basket and onto the front of the boat that 18-year-old Jack Abbott and his father were using on their wakeboarding trip near Melbourne. The teen told a local broadcaster that he has sprung into action after seeing the balloon descending over the water which apparently looked unable to regain its lost altitude.

“Dad said, you need to come in now, we’re going to get this hot air balloon.” The teen told channel 9.

The issue that was complicating the rescue was the fact that every time someone exited the basket, the balloon got lighter and would regain some altitude moving away from the boat.

Eventually all nine passengers emerged from their dramatic event unharmed with clear relief due to the quick actions of the rescuers.
