Sierra Nevada highway threatened to collapse after the latest downpours swelled waterways, leaving nearly half of the state under flood advisories.
“The water started to seep in the driveway, and then it started to creep up into the front door. It kept getting worse and worse” said Alex Hilario, who walked in knee deep water to get to his car and leave the flooded area.
To prevent sickness to over 225 people, a rescue team took the individuals to dry land and they were rinsed with soap and water to ensure they were clean from any harmful substances that was present in the floodwater.
Rescuers went searching for people who needed to leave the neighborhood. Only the individuals who could prove they had been rinsed from the floodwater were allowed to get buses to the shelters.
In this situation the Reach and Rescue Wading Pole would have been great assistance in helping both the rescuers and casualties. The Wading Pole can be used in a variety of applicantions but in this scenario it would have been a distinct advantage when wading through unknown floodwater areas.
