The crew actually used the pole to rescue a male from water. Access was a problem due to the height difference from the bank to the water; they needed to stop the male from drifting away downstream from them.

The rescue was made easier by sheer fact the pole was quick to get to work, they could affect the rescue initially to a point of safety near the bank away from the flow, which then allowed the crew time to put a further system of work in place to get the male from the water.
